Large parts of the world are a bit sad and angry and not fun right now, which makes this the best of days; a day to inject a little sunshine into the world and put a smile on the faces of those around you. It doesn’t have to be big and flashy or expensive, you’d be surprised how much difference the little things can make to someone’s day. Here’s a little list of things you can do to add a bit more kindness into the world:

No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted - Aesop

  1. Put your phone away. When someone is talking to you today, just put your phone in your pocket and listen for a little while.
  2. If you receive good service somewhere, make sure you get their name and compliment them to their boss/head office.
  3. Write someone a letter. A real, actual letter, and mail it!
  4. Grab a serviette and wipe up the milk and sugar you spilled at the coffee shop.
  5. Give up your seat for someone on the bus/train.
  6. Make plans with that person you always forget to make plans with.
  7. Call your parents.
  8. Call your grandparents.
  9. Offer to babysit and give someone a night out.
  10. Send a letter to a stranger who needs a pick-me-up through More Love Letters
  11. Join the Bone Marrow registry
  12. If you have any unwanted coupons, leave them in the store for someone to find.
  13. Spend 10 minutes of your day on Free Rice, a not-for-profit website which donates Rice to the hungry as you answer questions on subjects such as Language, Science and Maths. Learn and donate at the same time!
  14. Hold the door.
  15. Smile at people.
  16. Forgive someone.
  17. Ask someone if they need help before they have to ask you – the person on the street looking lost, of the new guy at work.
  18. Offer someone a lift.
  19. Leave your newspaper of magazine behind in the coffee shop or the waiting room for the next person.
  20. Use less plastic…or none at all. Be kind to the environment.

And remember, it doesn’t just have to be or today!
