“Thirty years ago, in 1987, a super robot named Mega Man was created.”

A lot has shifted since that fateful day, not only in the world of Mega Man but also for the wider video games industry in general, with the latest debates surrounding game investment time, pay-to-win systems and micro transactions. It’s a clouded gaming world out there, so it’s nice to see a familiar face with the announcement of the new Mega Man 11, which was revealed on 4th December during the Mega Man 30th Anniversary Twitch live show by CapCom.

Back in 1987, it was the Nintendo Entertainment System that provided the stage for this character, however the 2018 release of Mega Man 11 will hit not only Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC but will also be making a grand appearance on the Nintendo Switch, which will make a handheld experience that should be ideal to the play style of the game. As well as the announcement, CapCom also revealed an initial trailer (below) and featured interviews with the developers and fans of the series.

Interestingly if you look back at the origins of the Mega Man story you actually find a little android known as ‘Rock’ which was created by the great scientist ‘Dr Light’ and his assistant ‘Dr Wily’ as a new lab assistant. However when Light was betrayed by Wily and he reprogrammed most of their created robots for foul purposes, Rock volunteered to be converted into a fighting robot to help save the world with the help of his cannon arm, the ‘Mega Buster’.

It will be interested to see if the new Mega Man release will capture the imagination of a new gaming generation, but with the release of both Legacy Collections coming to Nintendo Switch in Spring 2018 and then all 8 Mega Man X games dropping to Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC in the Summer, it should be a good upcoming year for Mega Man, CapCom and the fate of the world.
